Everyday, thousands of people decide to create a blog and enter the first conflict or first doubt WordPress or Blogger? Which platform is better for creating a blog? In this post I want to clarify your doubts so you better know both these platforms. This is a great fight in the world of blogging: WordPress vs. Blogger .
Before starting the battle between WordPress and Blogger , I want to clarify that when we talk about WordPress, I mean WordPress.org , because WordPress.com is a free version of this platform but has conditions very similar to Blogger, and in general, Blogger as free version seems better than WordPress.com
This clarification, let's get into perspective.
You have decided to create a blog , but you are not sure if your blog will be successful or not.
You've heard that WordPress has some features that Blogger does not have, but Blogger is free, so you're thinking about getting started. You'll create your blog on Blogger to save your money, and if your project is successful you'll have time to migrate your blog.
It's the same as I think with one of my first projects, and the fact is that even being a Blogger blog, this blog is quite successful and start generating revenue, the problem is after migrating to WordPress can be very complicated. and that could endanger your blog's position, so maybe blogging on Blogger is not a good idea.
But let's start from the beginning, because you may be a newbie and maybe you do not know what each platform offers.
WordPress vs Blogger
What is a blogger
Blogger is Google's free blog creation platform.
Anyone can create a free blog on Blogger in minutes, with your blog has a domain like nombredemiblog.blogspot.com.
In this case, your blog is hosted on the same Blogger, so you do not have to rent hosting to host your blog.
What is WordPress.org?
WordPress.org is a platform where you can create your own blog, but this is a completely different concept. When you create your blog, it's not hosted on the same platform but you need to hire a host to host your blog, then install WordPress on that host (it looks messy but do not worry about it ).
Let's say WordPress is a free software that you can access to install on your blog and to your liking.
Installation is very simple and when you hire your hosting, your hosting provider will facilitate the access and installation of WordPress, as WordPress is the most widely used platform in the world for creating websites and blogs. A quarter of the websites that are on the Internet are created with WordPress (for something will be).
The main difference between WordPress and Blogger.
We see that the main differences between these two platforms are:
- Blogger is a free platform where your blog is hosted in the cloud.
- With WordPress.org you are responsible for renting hosting for your blog and installing WordPress.
At first glance, it seems Blogger is a better option because it's free and seems simpler, but in reality WordPress offers more possibilities that we'll see below.
What's the difference between WordPress and Blogger?
Advantages of Blogger.
- Make your blog absolutely free.
- Create all the blogs you want.
- If you know how to program, you can modify the blog code to customize it.
- It has a template designer where you can modify the source and color of the blog.
- You can use Adsense to monetize your blog.
- You can use Google Analytics.
Blogger Deficiency.
- Few SEO options.
- You can not install plugins.
- 2 Gbs maximum image storage.
- You can create a maximum of 20 static pages.
- Blogs do not belong to you, so you must comply with Google policies (there are some cases where Google has deleted blogs).
Benefits of WordPress.
- Thousands of plugins to fix and add features to your blog.
- SEO Optimization
- Very good for managing users.
- Thousands of quality templates for better design.
- You are the owner of your blog and you have full control over the content.
- No one can delete your blog because of alleged irregularities.
- Free security updates
Disadvantages of WordPress.
- You need to rent hosting .
My personal experience with both these platforms.
My start on Blogger.
Like many users, when I started blogging, I did not have much general knowledge about any platform, and since Blogger is free, I chose this option and my first 3 blogs were created on Blogger.
In principle I have no complaints about this platform, because the interaction with it is very simple, but I can not give my blog the professional design I want. I tried to convince myself about the good design my blog has, but when I look at other blog designs in WordPress I am very jealous.
On the other hand, I lost a lot of time learning to touch the code to make a few modifications to leave my blog the way I want it.
A few moments later I realized that this modification, which many of my heads grow on Blogger, can be done in WordPress just by installing plugins associated with it.
Over time, one of my blogs started generating a lot of revenue, and I decided to move it to WordPress, because the personalization options are very limited in Blogger, but migration is not as easy as some people paint it, and this can harm the position of the blog
Change to WordPress.
When I had an idea to create this blog, I decided to create it in WordPress.
I do not know how WordPress works, but I hired a host with Hostgator and installed WordPress.
In a short time I learned how WordPress works and I have to tell you that the change was brutal. No colors .
The chances of personalizing your blog with extraordinary plugins, and all without major complications or having to retouch code. You install the plugin, you activate it ... period.
On the other hand, when I started on WordPress, I installed a free template (you have thousands of free templates in WordPress repositories) ... but the same story. Possible personalization is not the same as the premium template.
I did not think twice, and after Dean Romero's recommendation, I decided to buy the Genesis Framework (I still use it), which has a nice premium template option.
I must say that the purchase of the Genesis Framework is the best investment I made in my online business. Being one of the most popular Frameworks around the world, it has different proprietary plugins for this Framework.
You can not imagine the time I saved myself by not having to fiddle with the code at all.
You can see the templates here .
Conclusion Which blogging platform is better?
Honestly, WordPress.org is years away from Blogger and other free platforms.
What's not free
That's right you need to invest 4 € / month to rent hosting (this is what hosting costs You are at Hostgator , the provider I use).
If you just want to create a blog is not serious or professional, just write your thoughts or to share photos of kittens, Blogger is fine, but if you want to create blogs that people read, with professional air and maybe someday you will generate revenue , or who knows, if you can even stay on your blog, use WordPress.
I do not have the required training.
If you think that before launching into the world of blogging you need training and help, do not worry.
Ángel Alegre , author of one of my favorite blogs, has created the IDEA2BLOG course , which although not a course that focuses on using WordPress, will help you create your blog on this platform, and help plan, validate and launch online business ideas
Ángel is a blogger who has managed to live on his blog while traveling around the world, so he knows what he's talking about in the course.

Guide to create your professional WordPress blog in 15 minutes.
Then I explain how to create your blog in WordPress in 3 easy steps.
In a matter of a few minutes, you will have your blog ready to work on it.
This guide includes two videos where I explain each step. Follow everything I explain and today you will become an authentic blogger.
1. Hire a hosting plan.
The first thing you need is to rent hosting .
All the hosting providers offer very similar features and functions, so to choose your blog hosting you should choose a professional service provider and have a good price.
In my opinion, the best hosting provider is: Hostgator .
All my blogs and websites are hosted on Hostgator. It is the most important hosting provider in the United States, with over 9 million subscribers. They offer the best price and good technical service.
Advantages of Hostgator.
1. The control panel (CPanel) can be entered into Spanish.
2. Easy installation of WordPress (with few clicks).
3. Your blog will load faster.
4. Technical services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (via chat, email and phone).
What hosting plan to choose?
If you are going to create your first blog, my suggestion is you choose the Hatchling plan , with which you can only host the website, although in the future you can easily switch to other plans if you need to create more websites.
If you want to create some blog / website or have in mind to do it immediately, use Babyplan .
How much does it cost?
The Hatchling plan costs $ 5.56 (about € 4) per month, if you hire it for a year.
Total cost for the full year is € 51 (plus tax). For this amount you must add € 10 for the purchase of the domain, which you will register when renting hosting (domain has no tax).
