Working from home is something desired by many people, but it is a challenge when trying to be as productive as possible. In this post I want to give you 6 tips to work from home with greater productivity.
Working from home has several advantages, but it can also have some disadvantages if you do not maintain a routine with certain habits to perform to the maximum.
At home we tend to have many distractions and it is necessary to follow these habits because, being sitting all day on the computer may seem that you are working a lot, but perhaps you are cheating and you are really wasting your time and you are not being productive.
This post is focused on my reader profile, that is, bloggers who work on their blog from home , but it is also applicable to all types of entrepreneurs, freelances and professionals working at home.
Maybe you work as an employee for 8 hours, and when you get home you spend another 2 or 3 hours working on your blog.
It is important that you make the most of those 2 or 3 hours and do not waste your time in so many distractions that the Internet offers us.
6 tips for working from home with productivity
1. Prepare a comfortable workspace
If at home you use a laptop to work on your blog, it can be a temptation to work on your blog lying on the sofa, but it is best to use a workplace away from distractions such as TV, and define the area well work away from other areas focused on rest how the bed, the sofa, etc.
Use a table as clean and tidy as possible, where work is a pleasure.
Do not skimp on resources to make the work area as comfortable as possible. A good chair or office chair is ideal to be comfortable and maintain a good posture during working hours.
For example, I bought an office chair in the web of ofisillas.es
You can see my new chair in the next photo. The purchase has really been worth it. I assure you it is super comfortable.
It is also important that in your work area you have good lighting and the right temperature , neither cold nor hot.
2. Establish a work routine
This is something that many bloggers fail.
When you combine a job with your work on your blog, you only spend time on your blog when you arrive rested from work and do not have to do any task with the family or with your friends. This takes you to devote very little time to your blog, and before you know it, you may have already been several weeks without posting new content on your blog.
It is important to maintain a regularity in your blog and establish a weekly work schedule , which of course adapts to other tasks you have and that allows you to have time for rest, leisure, exercise, etc.
An example could be dedicating 6 hours a week to your blog, distributed how you want:
- 3 hours on Monday and 3 on Thursday
- 2 hours a day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday ....
You can do tests with different schedules to check which hours of the day are more productive.
3. Plan your work time
Something I like to do every day when I put myself on the computer is to write down the tasks I want to do that day with respect to my blog.
Example:
- Post a post on my blog Live from Passive Income.
- Write a post as a guest for X blog.
- Improve the SEO Onpage of 3 posts.
- Make linkbuilding towards a specific post.
- ...
In this way I assure myself that when I finish my working hours, they have been productive and I have done the work I decided to do.
4. Avoid distractions
As I have already mentioned, there are thousands of distractions on the Internet that can rob you of your work time.
Sitting on the computer watching videos on YouTube, browsing social networks, or answering whatsapp is not working.
Personally I try to set aside my working time on the blog from the time I spend watching some video or browsing through social networks.
Everything has its time!
If every time you sit down at the computer to work on your blog, you can see the social networks, you will see how the hours go by and you do not advance in what you have proposed.
With respect to music, I understand that there are people who like to work with background music, but choose well the music you listen to while you workand at the right volume.
I do not think that listening to reggaeton with a subwoofer that makes the whole house tremble allows you to concentrate on your work.
Finally, try to turn off or silence your mobile during these hours of work. You will avoid attending many calls and whatsapp that can usually wait a few minutes.
5. Rest between homework and homework
Being seated continuously on a computer for 4 or 5 hours makes you pay less attention to your task and yield less.
It is good to refresh your mind a bit between homework and small breaks of 5 minutes , where maybe you just go to the kitchen for a glass of water, go out to the terrace to breathe some fresh air or go to the toilet to do your needs
These are small breaks of a few minutes that refresh your mind long enough to return to the maximum, but make no mistake ... take care to put the TV or get to see the Twitter and this rest is extended for an hour and do Leave your work for the next day.
6. Take the lock and live the life
Equally important to be productive during your work hours at home is to know how to close and disconnect from work to also have leisure time and rest.
This is something that many people who work at home fail ... they do not know how to disconnect.
Working at home does not mean that you have to be with the laptop from the table to the sofa and from the sofa to the bed.
Do not mix work with leisure or rest.
When you have finished working, spend the time necessary to watch a movie with your partner, go to the park with your children or go for a walk with your dog.
Your rest is also important so that when you work, be productive.
